Thank you for the reply. What i am aiming to do is, as part of the x86 to x64 conversion process, uninstall the x86 version of TEAMS which was installed by MSI , and let O reinstall x64 bit version of Office and Teams together. This will only happen to handful of users.. However, i would like to know what is the correct method of the uninstall, so i can script this. I will use SCCM to deploy this. Is this correct? If i remove these folders, then do i lose chat history? I would like to retain the chat history if possible.

So once the x64 conversion is done, in theory i just need to logoff and relogin with the user, and TEAMS x64 should reinstall to the users profile.

Question 2. No, the chat history is saved in user’s Exchange Online mailbox. So, don’t worry about it. If my suggestion helps, please feel free to accept it as answer to benefit people with the same doubt.

Find threads, tags, and users Luckily, it is easy enough to select which bit version you want to install in case you do not want the default one. You can find instructions for this at the bottom of this guide. In general, the main benefit of using the bit version of Office, is that it can use access memory when needed.

With the bit version of Office, the application can only use up to 2GB of memory, even when more is available in your computer. Using the bit version of Office will for instance allow you to work with large data sets like Excel workbooks or Project files that are over 2GB in size. Similarly, when you are working with large Word documents or PowerPoint presentations that are very rich with multimedia pictures, videos, complex animations, etc… or large tables or other embedded objects, the bit version can be of help.

The bit version of Office also offers a security benefit as it always has Hardware Data Execution Prevention DEP enabled although this can be enabled for the bit version as well. When it comes to Outlook, using the bit version of Outlook does not have any direct benefits.

The functionality within Outlook is the same and there is also no noticeable performance increase by using the bit edition. The main reason for the original recommendation was compatibility with existing add-ins for Office. For an add-in to work with the bit version of Office, it needs to be recompiled by the developer specifically for the bit version of Office. In some cases the developer also needs to make some specific changes for bit support or needs to wait for specific libraries, that the add-in relies on, to be recompiled for bit.

This last add-in is actually a very old add-in that is also not compatible with the bit version of Outlook and later and is also not longer being offered by Microsoft but there is an alternative. A similar issue exists with other applications that integrate themselves with Office or rely on Office components.
