The level design is still great, like the original. You’ll have to survive dangerous jumps and run from creatures that want your blood.
Tomb Raider still conveys the feeling of the Indiana Jones movies. You are a treasure hunter trying to steal artifacts that have been hidden for years. You will have to get past traps and solve puzzles that require lots of thinking. The graphics are obviously outdated, but they look even worse because they haven’t been adjusted to fit the high resolutions of current devices. There aren’t any refreshed textures so you get blocky and low detailed characters and environments. The controls are among the worst with no configuration options on PC and touchscreen controls for Android and iOS.
Tomb Raider also brings the frustrating controls of the original. Lara moves like a tank so every movement has to be planned or you’re going to die repeatedly. Tomb Raider is a classic game, but this recent release is a bad port of the original game.
Can you enjoy yourself with this version? That depends on what you’re looking for. If you just want to re-experience the original game, then you’ll be fine. But if you’re looking for a polished adventure, try Tomb Raider Anniversary or the recent franchise reboot. Have you tried Tomb Raider I?

It was a gamechanger pardon the pun. The first of it’s kind. I have nearly all of the subsequent adventures and the first one I bought in a collectors edition with a t shirt, deck of cards still unopened , Mouse mat and a second CD with extra levels and a level builder I think. Playing it here has reminded me how good the original game was I can’t currently play the original CD ‘cos it’s not compatible with Win10 or even XP which I still have a working laptop of. In I moved to a small village in Oxfordshire and over a garden wall encountered one of the original team who created the game Hi Nathan [Mcree responsible for music and soundscape] if you read this!
He’s in Czech Rep now. I’m in Sweden It’s still a classic and the following episodes are good too. I recently picked up free versions of the latest iterations on Steam and they are fun too. But maybe I’m kidding myself but feel there’s something not quite as fresh, innovative, quirky and lacking in the wit of the original? How many old game players does it take to change a light-bulb? I don’t know but the original was the best. Blast from the past. Good fun although not as good because it’s slower and poorer graphics.
